We all get to think about these things. Sadly, many people never get through the thinking phase to the phase where they start doing something.

And the reason is that they don’t know how to go about it. Every online business has its hurdles. It’s no different from a video marketing agency. It’s even worse if you’re a newbie & lack experience because there are too many
processes involved, and going through all that different processes can be overwhelming.

The good thing is

In an effort to help you kickstart your business smoothly, we’ve written this article to guide you step by step to start a video marketing agency and possibly avoid the mistakes that other marketers fall into.

Why Video Marketing?

Before we dive into the specifics, let me quickly explain to you why it makes so much sense to start a video marketing agency business now.

You see!

When it comes to selling online, videos outperform other content types like images & text. Recent studies have also shown that videos are critical for marketing success.

Just check out these stats by Wyzowl,

>> 86% of video marketers say videos increased their website traffic.
>> 84% of marketers said videos had helped them to generate more leads online.
>> According to Tiger Fitness, video marketing helped them achieve a 60% returning customer rate.

Also,

With the global pandemic & lockdown, local businesses move their operations online to reach their customers & prospects. It’s because of these different factors that the demand for video is super right now. This makes video marketing a profitable business and service to offer to businesses & other entrepreneurs.

Apart from being profitable, Video marketing is effortless to start in terms of cost – Like most online businesses, it’s a low-cost investment. So you don’t need to put in so much cash before you can start it. And you can do it from anywhere – your home, garage, office, etc., where you deem comfortable is fine.

What Type of Videos Should You Sell After Start A Video Marketing Agency?

Now, we’ve established video marketing as a very lucrative online business for any marketer to dive into. So what type of video should you then offer or sell to your clients? Before you start your agency business. The first thing you need to do is decide the type of videos you want to sell to your clients.

There are different types of videos, and not all of them are in demand. If the demand for a service or product is low, it simply means people are not buying it, and they probably don’t need it. So, before you start telling people about your business, you need to research first what’s trending, and that’s what you’ll offer to clients.

I’m going to show you 2 platforms that will help you in this research. The first one is the google keyword planner. Note that you need to have an active google ads account to use the keyword planner tool. This tool is designed to give you an insight into the search activities of people on google.

With this tool, we’ll tell the video types that are in-demand based on google searches. this is what the device looks like –

Google Keyword Planner

Let’s say,

I want to search Explainer Videos to see the number of times people search for it on Google. I’ll type the keyword into the search bar (explainer video). I can also target my search to a particular location if I want or leave it at the default setting targeting all locations.

Here’s what the monthly search result looks like;

Google Planner Search Result

This result shows that the keyword “Explainer Video” has received over 14 thousand searches this month. And the competition is medium. This means few advertisers are targeting this keyword.

Using this tool, you want to look out for a keyword with a very high monthly search volume.

Remember, we are trying to discover video types in demand, so the keyword here is any video. Now, anything above 10k average monthly search volume is excellent. Based on the search volume for Explainer Video, we can conclude that explainer videos are hot & in-demand.

Here’s a result for “Animated Videos.”

Google Planner result for “Animated Videos" Keyword

The monthly search volume is very high, over 200k. Again, we can conclude that Animated Videos are in demand since the keyword is getting a lot of searches. The second platform is called – SEMrush Keyword Research Tool.

Like the keyword planner tool, you also need to have an active account with SEMrush to access this tool. The link above will take you to this platform. Then you create a free account & start using it. SEMrush will also help you discover trending keywords by showing the search volumes on those keywords.

How To Sell Your Video Marketing Agency Service?

If you already know the type of videos to sell to your clients and you followed the method I showed earlier to research the kind of videos in-demand & that you should offer to clients. The next thing to do is to start selling. So how do you do this?

There are two ways to go about it.

The first one is to create videos & sell by yourself, and the second one is using a method we call “drop service.” What drop-service means is that you don’t make the videos yourself. You get someone to do it while you focus on getting sales & delivering to clients.

Let’s see both of them in more detail.

For the first one – create videos & sell yourself

This is common with people who are skilled in creating videos. If you’re already good at video creation, then it’s easy. You need to get a sale, create the videos and deliver them to your client. If you don’t have any video creation skills or knowledge, that’s not a problem.

These days, there are many tools out there that can create any type of video for you in just minutes. This means you don’t need to have video creation skills to run a video marketing agency business or make money online selling videos. Thankfully, things are changing every day & digital services like video creation keep getting easy to create.

One tool I can recommend for you to help you create any video, fast & easy, is this one called Video Creator.

So moving on, assuming, you know how to create a video very well (maybe an explainer video) or you have a tool like Video Creator that can do it for you. The next thing you need to start selling videos is a Marketplace.

Here, a marketplace is simply a place where people can come to get information about your service. It’s usually a website. If you have a website already set up for your video marketing agency, then that’s perfect. It can serve as your marketplace. You just need to promote it online & get more people (potential clients) to see it and check out your service.

If you don’t have a website, another way is to display your service on top online marketplaces like Fiverr or Upwork.

Upwork

They usually charge a fee for every sale you make on the platform, but it’s a small fee compared to the profit you earn. You can sign up on any of these platforms – fiverr, Upwork, etc. Set up your account and start promoting your service online. I’ll show you how to promote your service later in this guide).

Now, the second method of selling your videos online is – Drop-Service

With the Drop-Service method, you don’t need to have any skill in video creation. You don’t even need to buy software to create videos. Your focus is to get the sale, then find someone skilled in creating videos and
doesn’t charge an expensive fee. You outsource the project to this person, and when it’s done, you deliver to your client as a project you handled yourself.

It’s that simple.

You can find people to outsource your project to on freelancer networks like Fiverr, Upwork, etc. From what we’ve seen, if you have a medium to market your service, the next thing is to start getting clients.

How To Land Your First Client In The Next 30 Days?

Landing clients online is usually the difficult part for most entrepreneurs and marketers. I won’t say it’s difficult, but it has its twist & turns, making it somewhat complicated at times. However, in this section, I’m going to give you a few proven hacks that will enable you to land serious, high-paying clients within 30 days.

Here they are;

  1. Identify your target audience;

Before you start searching for clients online, you need to know first who your clients are, and then you streamline your effort to find them. What you can do is to draw an avatar of your perfect client. And list out all the characteristics or qualities that your target client should possess like age, job role, lifestyle, etc.

Here’s a sample of a customer avatar created by a digital marketer.

Assuming, you’ve worked out your customer avatar, so you now know who your exact customer is & where you can find them. We can then move to the next hack.

2. Cold Call Prospects

The truth is that – a lot of the time, your clients won’t come to you on their own – especially if you’re just starting & yet to build a strong name. So instead of sitting around, waiting for clients, what you do is to cold call. Cold calling means going ahead and contacting your target audience even though they haven’t shown interest in your offer or service.

It’s a very old marketing practice, but it’s very much effective. Cold calling can be done via calls, email or text messaging or messaging on social media.

See sample below!

Cold Call Prospects

Here are a few tips that will help you in structuring your cold calling script.

A. Introduction

The first thing is to take your time & carefully introduce yourself to your prospect and where you’re from (your company name). Assuming it’s a phone call, you don’t want to rush it and sound timid or like you don’t know what you’re talking about.

So you must be calm & articulate also. A perfect example for this will be;

This is [Name] From [Company]… that’s it!

And mind you, whether you’re calling with a phone or you send a text, it’s the same pattern for all of them.

B. Establish a Rapport

After introducing yourself, you proceed to ask your prospect a question. The goal here is to get them talking and show that you’re familiar with them and their company.

Here are some sample questions:

So, [prospect name], I see you went to [university]. How did you like it?
Wow, you’ve been at [company] for [X years]. How did you get started there?
Congrats on your recent promotion. How is the new role?

What this will do is to lighten their mood & lay the foundation for a good conversation between you & your prospect. But in a case where your prospects express that they are in a hurry & don’t have time to entertain questions, you should move straight and get to the point.

C. Use A Positioning Statement

A positioning statement shows your prospect that you work with similar companies and
understand their challenges. You’re not talking about yourself, which is what most cold
callers do.

Here’s a hypothetical positioning statement: “I work with sales managers in hospitality with five to eight reps on their team. My customers are typically looking to increase rep productivity. Does that sound like you?” Since you’ve pre-qualified them, they’ll always say “yes.” Simply say, “Tell me more about that.”

Now, it’s all about them! They’ll explain their pain points and objectives, which is valuable information to start building your pitch. After they are done explaining their pain points, you can take it up from there, pitch your
service to them & tell them how it will benefit them.

3. Foot In The Door Offer

This simply means to give your prospects something that will motivate them to buy your service & become customers. Even with the best cold call technique, it’s possible to get a “NO” from prospects still
when you finally introduce them to your offer.

The reason is that people don’t like to be sold to. It’s a thing with every human – I’m sure you don’t go about just buying everything presented to you. You always want to tie a reason to every purchase you make. It’s the same thing with your prospects.

They won’t just buy because you pitch them your service & ask them to go for it. They have to find a reason for it.
And in a case where your pitch doesn’t give them enough reason to purchase your service. That’s where your foot in the door offer comes in.

Give them something tangible & valuable enough to break their objections & turn them into customers. For a video marketing agency, you can offer to audit your prospect’s marketing plans for free. Or a free consultation on how they can grow their business. With an offer like this, your prospects will be excited to purchase your offers & become customers.

Where To Find Clients After Start A Video Marketing Agency Business?

In this section, I’ll be using the word “traffic” a lot – it represents your potential clients or prospects online. Ideally, getting traffic comes before clients. So what we are looking at is where to find quality traffic for a video marketing agency business.

And there are 2 methods for this.

  • Free or Organic
  • Paid Ads

Let’s discuss them in detail.

Free or Organic Method

This is traffic that you don’t pay a dime for. It’s just as the word implies, “free.” With this method, you can kickstart your business & get real clients that will pay you to create videos for them, completely for free. The downside is that it requires a lot of effort to set up, plus it takes time before you start getting results with this method.

If you have the time to spare or you probably don’t have enough budget to kickstart your business, then free traffic is for you. Here are some ways you can get traffic online for free;

A. Start A Blog

Blogging is one of the most effective ways to get free, quality traffic online. Google being one of the most visited sites on the planet, gets millions of searches every day. Having a blog means you can tap from the LOADS of traffic that Google gets every day without spending a dime.

All you need to do is create fresh, relevant content in your niche and post it on your blog. Then Google ranks your content using the keywords inside, and you start getting quality buyer traffic for free. The best part is that you only need to create the content once & post it on your blog, and it continues to generate traffic for you.

For content ideas for your blog, you can get them on sites like BuzzSumo.

B. Start a YouTube Channel

This is similar to blogging, but instead of creating articles, you video content and post them on YouTube. From reports, YouTube has over 2 billion users who visit the platform every month, and it’s the 2nd most visited website behind only Google.

This makes it one of the best places to get free traffic online. Millions of people consume content on YouTube daily, and many businesses & entrepreneurs are getting their share of this hot traffic. Starting a Youtube channel is very easy – you need a Gmail account, that’s it! After that, start creating relevant video content in your niche, then you publish them on your channel & get traffic.

C. Post On Social Media

Almost the entire internet population is on social media, including your prospects and clients. This makes social media one of the best sources for free traffic. Your prospects are already on social media; all you need to do is engage them with valuable content in your niche and drive them to your website. You can get content ideas from sites like Buzzsumo.

Other free traffic sources are;

D. Guest posting on other people’s blogs
E. Commenting on blogs & forums
F. Post on Quora, etc…

Paid Traffic

Paid traffic is traffic that is acquired through paid advertising. You set it up then drive the traffic to your website. And it doesn’t require much work, and it’s very easy to set up. The good part is that with paid traffic, you can start getting results instantly – it’s predictable.

Some common paid traffic sources;

  • Social media ads
  • TV commercials
  • Native ads
  • Media buys
  • Solo ads, etc…

The most common form of paid traffic is social media ads like Facebook, Google, Instagram ads, etc. Social media ads are quite cheap & easy to set up also. The good part is that, With social media ads, you can filter & target your perfect audience based on location, interest, employment, age, etc.

Plus,

You can start with a tiny ad budget, then scale up as you continue running your ads. If you’re new to social media advertising, I’ll recommend that you start with Facebook ads because it’s newbie-friendly. How To Position Your Video Marketing Agency As An Authority?

You’ve started your video marketing agency, but there are a lot of other agency businesses just like yours. Which means you would have to be dealing with competitors. The only way out is to stand out from the crowd and position yourself as an expert in your industry. Here are some quick tips that will enable you to position yourself as an authority & go top in your industry.

  1. Create A Blog

Aside from helping you get free traffic, running a blog with good content can easily position you as an authority in the topic you blog about. If you run a video marketing agency, you must have a blog containing quality content on videos. When people land on your blog & read your articles, they easily view you as an expert in your field & this will bring them to contact you on their own.

2. Write a Book

This doesn’t need much explanation. It is similar to owning a blog. Being an author of a book gives you credibility and gets people to trust your business, even if the book is not a best seller. The key here is that people assume that you’ve written a book because you’re a credible source of information, and they can work with you.

3. Contribute On Forums

Contributing to forums is another way to position yourself as an expert in your industry. Most of your prospects visit these forums and question & answer platforms. They come here to ask a question or to learn from questions that people have asked already.

All you need to do is go on these platforms & answer questions in your niche. By doing this, people will take an interest in you & would want to check out your offers.

An example of a forum that you can visit is Reddit.

An example of a question & answer platform is Quora.

4. Testimonials & Reviews

Having lots of testimonials & reviews on your website is also a perfect way for people to trust your brand & see you as an expert. The thing is, Often when people want to judge who a trusted brand is, The first thing they do is to look for testimonials of other people that have worked with that brand. Testimonials increase over time based on the number of projects you’ve worked with & customers that you’ve served.

So, for someone who’s just starting, this is a problem because, at the early stage, you’ll probably not have testimonials to show prospects, But here’s what you can do One of the fastest ways to get testimonials is to offer people your service for free or for a very cheap amount.

Then in exchange, you make them know that you need a testimonial from them. You can do it on any social media network, like Facebook. Just make a post to inform people that this is the service you offer. You’re currently running a special promo where you’ll help ten persons create a sales video for their business for free in exchange for this offer, and you need them to give you an honest review of your service. That’s it!
